Archaeologists have finalised the excavation of wreckage belonging to the Spitfire that crashed 75 years ago. The crash took place in the field at Holme Lode farm, Cambridgeshire, on November 22, 1940.
The pilots body was recovered at the time of the crash and buried in his home town of Brighton. Among the items archaeologists discovered were the Spitfires propeller, oxygen tank and the pilot’s helmet.
