The Tasmanian tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus) was a carnivorous marsupial living in Tasmania (Australia). The settlement of Europeans in Tasmania led to the extinction of this creature as farmers feared the threat they might pose to livestock, and hunters prized them as trophies.
